Pisces Energy
The New Moon is on Tuesday, February 21 at 2:35 PM PST (3 degrees Pisces). There is an abundance of Pisces energy now as 4 planets, 2 asteroids, and wounded-healer Chiron are tightly packed together in the sign of bursting illusions to open to your enlightenment. The high side of Pisces is to open to and trust your inner knowing. The low side is to get lost in fantasy or believing what you want to see and hear rather than what is actually there.
Of course, it is also Mardi Gras and Pisces rules alcohol spirits just as it does your spiritual connection to guides and healers. You get to use your free will to choose your preferred vibration. Regardless of your choice, it would be wise to take some private time this week to open to your inner vision, or just to stop the busyness of your external life.
During the past two weeks, numerous people have called with financial concerns or fear, or just told me that their business was very slow right now.
Saturn turned stationary retrograde back on February 8th and is just being “stuck” this month at the final degree of Libra- so a re-balancing is going on. Review your relationships and commitments now, connect with old friends, and know that Saturn moves into Scorpio next October and much will change. The action will pick up soon, so make use of your down time to clean up and reorganize while ambitious Mars is retrograde in cleansing Virgo.
February 21st New Moon
The New Moon that is upcoming in Pisces, taking place in the early degrees of the sign on Tuesday, February 21st, is an exciting one. The inter-galactic newsreels have lately been featuring the story of Neptune into Pisces, for the first time in over 160 years, and the symbolism that this event brings. This New Moon accentuates this phenomenon and gives it plenty of juicy energy. Neptune represents mystical dimensions beyond what is immediately available to our five senses of this physical world, and so this New Moon that is so connected with Neptune brings this perspective to bear as we attempt to deal with what we lovingly and laughably call the “real” world. Neptune is a trifle ungrounded, and perhaps even spacey in its application, being connected with a higher vibration than we can actually see, and could also manifest as overly enthusiastic idealism or even deception. And yet it has its advantages also. It might help to recognize that what we can concretely see and touch is only a portion of the story, and perhaps the smaller one at that.
The other powerful planetary factor in Pisces at this time is Chiron, the Wounded Healer, now at 4-plus degrees of the sign. The reason that this New Moon in Pisces brings these combined factors of Neptune and of Chiron into greater focus is that the New Moon, at 2-plus degrees of Pisces, takes place almost exactly at their midpoint, in conjunction to both planetary archetypes. Interestingly, the date when Chiron first entered Pisces was April 20, 2010 – the day of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill – reflecting a sense of painful process for the ocean, ruled by Neptune and Pisces. Now, with Neptune moving into Pisces in conjunction with Chiron, we might see further developments concerned with that disaster, which was a tragedy of mis-management as well as of failed technology. On the positive side, we might as a culture develop a concerted attempt to make the oceans a higher priority and this determination could even extend to global warming, a factor that threatens to raise ocean levels worldwide.
Chiron with Neptune can also be thought of as the wound of separation from the divine; in other words a spiritual connection that is perceived but is also perceived as lacking. This surely defines our present era. The ingress of Neptune into Pisces contributes greatly to the tenor of these times that we are living though, and asks of us, as the Uranus-Pluto square gets ever closer and moves toward its first exact contact in June, that we seek the soul solution. This is the paradoxically fruitful vertical connection with Spirit that sees every trial as a chance for increased growth in awareness of what is really going on. The New Moon also strongly aspects Uranus in active Aries, reminding us that we need all our powers of intuition to see through to the core of the important matters that we face. It might be a case of the water glass half-full. With the right perspective we can rise above circumstances and make of our current situation what the Chinese phrase calls to mind regarding the ideograph for crisis – a combination of danger and opportunity.
February in the Stars
The Full Moon is on Tuesday the 7th in the signs of Leo and Aquarius. Leo urges you to open your heart and project your creative passion into the world. Aquarius asks you to step back and see the larger picture. So you need to get involved, but not dragged into the drama of others.
This full moon is aligned with the star Sualocin in the constellation of the dolphin (Delphinus). It represents the need to bring forth your natural talents and mastery. Use the next few weeks to allow yourself to show the world what you can do.
At the same time, spiritual Neptune moved into psychic Pisces on Feb. 3, and will be passing through this illusion bursting sign for the next 14 years. It is time for a new vision; time to open to new paradigms. Be willing to open your inner vision to allow that which is next in your life to come to you.
There is a story that tells about how the South Pacific Islanders discovered Hawaii. As they journeyed in their boats, they called Hawaii to them.So instead of wearing yourself out searching for your next project, open up to allow it to come to you.
Restructuring Saturn is also turning retrograde until June 25th. Begin to finish shifts in relationships, as well as changing beliefs & behaviors in relationships. The old ways of doing relationships are birthing a new way, so practice adaptability as you open to all types of new relationships.Valentine’s Day activities are more romantic this weekend; and more social-friendly on the 14th.
Finally, Venus enters Aries for the rest of the month. It is time to pioneer a new path in areas of love and money. On a spiritual level, Venus is associated with healing and stepping into a higher value system (see 5th Ray explanati) Practice self-love this Valentine’s Day.
February 7 Full Moon in Leo
By Henry Seltzer
The Full Moon in Leo, taking place on Tuesday, February 7th and coming two weeks after the very powerful Aquarius New Moon from the 22nd of January, represents a culmination of that energy and a launching forth of what is quite literally another phase. This is because two of the key players, namely Neptune and Saturn – symbolizing blue skies possibility on the one hand and on the other, for holding back –.have dramatically changed since the New Moon time. Neptune has changed signs, moving into Pisces, the sign of his rulership, while Saturn has stopped still in the sky, turning to retrograde motion just on the brink of Scorpio yet still in the last degree of Libra. This shifts the tone but not the fundamental contrast represented by these archetypal energies, which remain very much part of the national dialog and of our individual lives as well. At this Full Moon time we reach for a balance of these energies.
Neptune in Pisces rather than Aquarius represents an important characteristic of the remainder of this year, and indeed for the remainder of this decade and for years beyond. This energy is highlighted now. At the time of the Full Moon, Venus, in the final degree of Pisces, makes a close inconjunct aspect to Saturn while Jupiter and the Moon aspect Neptune. Since the initial degree of Pisces, the degree that Neptune now occupies, is also aspected by Jupiter, Uranus and Chiron, there are cosmic harbingers of this event that have been felt as an increase in synchronicity over these past few weeks, going as far back as the recent holiday season. The Neptunian archetype – also represented by Pisces, so now doubled – transplants us to the mystical spaces behind and beyond our conscious minds. This energy literally takes us out of this world, or at least the world of physicality that we normally operate in, or that we operate within as far as our conscious brains are concerned. In truth, there is a numinous reality underlying and underpinning that visible world that we can perceive with what William Blake referred to as our senses five. This world is available in dream and in vision but these visions are often not trusted by our smaller viewpoint. Blake also famously stated that “if the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.”
In contrast to the other-worldly energy of Neptune that is now so very prominent, Saturn, representing the physical world, has been stationing or standing still in the sky and strongly aspecting Neptune. In another reflection of this same polarity, Saturn has also been powerfully aspecting Jupiter, an out-of-sign opposition that is now beginning to fade. Saturn is the sense of limitation and restriction that presents the perfect counterpoint to the idealism represented by Neptune and Jupiter, but in fact we need both modalities to function in this world. There is a way of seeing this Saturnian influence, which has been difficult, as also a grounding of the Neptunian vision into the reality of mass consciousness and of concrete action. The Occupy movement, at least in the non-violent part of its activity, is one indication of this contrast. The ideals of millions of people, outraged by perceived injustice, is able to be concretely realized and even to affect social outcomes. The President, who knows what to say to engage the American public if anyone does, included in his State of the Union a veiled reference to the 99 percent, the rallying cry of this movement, and to higher tax rates for the wealthy, with the possibility that legislation might be forthcoming. So that is action.
In our individual lives, with this Full Moon event and the Saturn retrograde, we might reflect on how well our actions match our ideals and where we are forced to surrender to the restrictions of physical reality. This does not mean that our dreams are dead or dying; far from it. But it does imply that we have to take a balanced approach to life and to give over as necessary to what actually works.

Welcome to Aquarius!
By Mark Dodich and Alicia Katz
The sun enters Aquarius on January 19. Read about Aquarius here!
Mars turns retrograde on Jan. 23 through mid-April, so it is time to turn your ambition towards organization, efficiency, healing, cleansing and simplification. There is a more extensive explanation in the winter column at www.astromark.us. Be careful of impatience in the days ahead because the shifting of direction can be annoying.
The New Moon itself on Sunday the 22nd sets up a challenging pattern called a T-Square (insert “motivational” if you prefer that to challenging). An Aquarius New Moon is good for expanding your circle of friends or exploring new groups, ideas, or changing aspirations. The challenge the new moon makes is to Jupiter which wants to expand in a large way, and Saturn with wants slow-but-sure changes. Find your balance between these two polarities or you are likely to find yourself in hurry up and wait situation.
This also begins the new year of the dragon, a free-spirited energy which does not like to be held down. It represents an enthusiastic do-it-big year, so a good time to review your ambitions.
As always, the week by week forecast is atwww.astromark.us/report.htm.
Health Bracelet Testimonial
“I was given a Wandering Star Destiny Jewelry bracelet for Health as an early Christmas gift. I began wearing the bracelet on a Friday. The following Monday I visited my osteopath for a treatment, still wearing the bracelet. Usually the day following treatment I am in too much pain to function. With this visit, the next I was fine! The only difference was my wearing the bracelet. What a powerful tool! I will not take it off if I can help it. Thank you so much!” K. Stroh, Portland OR

What the Mayan Elders are Saying About 2012 by Carlos Barrios
Carlos Barrios, Mayan elder and Ajq’ij (is a ceremonial priest and spiritual guide) of the Eagle Clan. Carlos initiated an investigation into the different Mayan calendars circulating. Carlos along with his brother Gerardo studied with many teachers and interviewed nearly 600 traditional Mayan elders to widen their scope of knowledge.
Carlos found out quickly there were several conflicting interpretations of Mayan hieroglyphs, petroglyphs, Sacred Books of ‘Chilam Balam’ and various ancient text. Carlos found some strong words for those who may have contributed to the confusion:
Carlos Barrios: “Anthropologists visit the temple sites and read the inscriptions and make up stories about the Maya, but they do not read the signs correctly. It’s just their imagination. Other people write about prophecy in the name of the Maya. They say that the world will end in December 2012. The Mayan elders are angry with this. The world will not end. It will be transformed.”
“We are no longer in the World of the Fourth Sun, but we are not yet in the World of the Fifth Sun. This is the time in-between, the time of transition. As we pass through transition there is a colossal, global convergence of environmental destruction, social chaos, war, and ongoing Earth Changes.”
He continues: “Humanity will continue, but in a different way. Material structures will change. From this we will have the opportunity to be more human. We are living in the most important era of the Mayan calendars and prophecies. All the prophecies of the world, all the traditions are converging now. There is no time for games. The spiritual ideal of this era is action.”
Carlos tells us: “The indigenous have the calendars and know how to accurately interpret it — not others. The Mayan Calendars comprehension of time, seasons, and cycles has proven itself to be vast and sophisticated. The Maya understand 17 different calendars such as the Tzolk’in or Cholq’ij, some of them charting time accurately over a span of more than ten million years.

“All was predicted by the mathematical cycles of the Mayan calendars. — It will change –everything will change. Mayan Day-keepers view the Dec. 21, 2012 date as a rebirth, the start of the World of the Fifth Sun. It will be the start of a new era resulting from and signified by the solar meridian crossing the galactic equator and the Earth aligning itself with the center of the galaxy.”
At sunrise on December 21, 2012 for the first time in 26,000 years the Sun rises to conjunct the intersection of the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic. This cosmic cross is considered to be an embodiment of the Sacred Tree, The Tree of Life, a tree remembered in all the world’s spiritual traditions.
Some observers say this alignment with the heart of the galaxy in 2012 will open a channel for cosmic energy to flow through the Earth, cleansing it and all that dwells upon it, raising all to a higher level of vibration. Carlos reminds us: “This process has already begun. Change is accelerating now and it will continue to accelerate.
If the people of the Earth can get to this 2012 date in good shape without having destroyed too much of the Earth, we will rise to a new, higher level. But to get there we must transform enormously powerful forces that seek to block the way.”
The date specified in the calendar Winter Solstice in the year 2012 does not mark the end of the world. Many outside people writing about the Mayan calendar sensationalize this date, but they do not know. The ones who know are the indigenous elders who are entrusted with keeping the tradition.
Carlos tells us: “The economy now is a fiction. The first five-year stretch of transition from August 1987 to August 1992 was the beginning of the destruction of the material world. We have progressed ten years deeper into the transition phase by now, and many of the so-called sources of financial stability are in fact hollow. The banks are weak. This is a delicate moment for them. They could crash globally, if we don’t pay attention. Now, people are paying attention.”
“Right now each person and group is going his or her own way. The elder of the mountains said there is hope if the people of the light can come together and unite in some way. We live in a world of polarity — day and night, man and woman, positive and negative. Light and darkness need each other. They are a balance.”
“Just now the dark side is very strong, and very clear about what they want. They have their vision and their priorities clearly held, and also their hierarchy. They are working in many ways so that we will be unable to connect with the spiral Fifth World in 2012.”
“On the light side everyone thinks they are the most important, that their own understandings, or their group’s understandings, are the key. There’s a diversity of cultures and opinions, so there is competition, diffusion, and no single focus.”
Carlos believes the dark side works to block unity through denial and materialism. It also works to destroy those who are working with the light to get the Earth to a higher level. They like the energy of the old, declining Fourth World, the materialism. They do not want it to change. They do not want unity. They want to stay at this level, and are afraid of the next level.
The dark power of the declining Fourth World cannot be destroyed or overpowered. It’s too strong and clear for that, and that is the wrong strategy. The dark can only be transformed when confronted with simplicity and open-heartedness. This is what leads to unity, a key concept for the World of the Fifth Sun.
Carlos said the emerging era of the Fifth Sun will call attention to a much-overlooked element. Whereas the four traditional elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water have dominated various epochs in the past, there will be a fifth element to reckon with in the time of the Fifth Sun — that element is ‘ETHER’.
The dictionary defines Ether as a “hypothetical substance supposed to occupy all space, postulated to account for the propagation of electromagnetic radiation through space.” Perhaps it could be defined as the “space between space”. I would suggest it could be manifest as the alignment of charged particles from our solar system (Sun), and our galaxy (Milky Way) surge. The Ether element represents spiritual energy.
“The element of the Fifth Sun is celestial. Within the context of Ether there can be a joining of the polarities. No more darkness or light in the people, but an uplifted unity. But right now the realm of darkness is not interested in this. They are organized to block it. They seek to unbalance the Earth and its environment so we will be unready for the alignment in 2012.”
“We need to work together for peace, and balance with the other side. We need to take care of the Earth that feeds and shelters us. We need to put our entire mind and heart into pursuing unity and unity now, to confront the other side and preserve life.”
“We are disturbed — we can’t play anymore. Our planet can be renewed or ravaged. Now is the time to awaken and take action. Everyone is needed. You are not here for no reason. Everyone who is here now has an important purpose. This is a hard but a special time. We have the opportunity for growth, but we must be ready for this moment in history.”
“Meditation and spiritual practice are good, but also action. It’s very important to be clear about who you are, and also about your relation to the Earth. Develop yourself according to your own tradition and the call of your heart. But remember to respect differences, and strive for unity. Eat wisely — a lot of food is corrupt in either subtle or gross ways. Pay attention to what you are taking into your body. Learn to preserve food, and to conserve energy. Learn some good breathing techniques, so you have mastery of your breath. Be clear. Follow a tradition with great roots. It is not important what tradition, your heart will tell you, but it must have great roots.”
“We live in a world of energy. An important task at this time is to learn to sense or see the energy of everyone and everything — people, plants, animals. This becomes increasingly important as we draw close to the World of the Fifth Sun, for it is associated with the element ‘ether’ — the realm where energy lives and weaves. Go to the sacred places of the Earth to pray for peace, and have respect for the Earth which gives us our food, clothing, and shelter. We need to reactivate the energy of these sacred places. That is our work.”
“One simple but effective prayer technique is to light white or baby-blue colored candles. Think of a moment in peace. Speak your intention to the flame and send the light of it on to the leaders who have the power to make war or peace.”
Carlos reminds us this is a crucially important moment for humanity and for Earth. Each person is important.
He said the elders have opened the doors so that other races can come to the Mayan world to receive the tradition. “The Maya have long appreciated and respected that there are other colors, other races, and other spiritual systems. They know that the destiny of the Mayan world is related to the destiny of the whole world.”
“The greatest wisdom is in simplicity. Love, respect, tolerance, sharing, gratitude, forgiveness. It’s not complex or elaborate. The real knowledge is free. It’s encoded in your DNA. All you need is within you. Great teachers have said that from the beginning. Find your heart, and you will find your way.”
December 24 New Moon
The Capricorn New Moon takes place in the mid-day period of Saturday, Christmas Eve, December 24th, in the third degree of Capricorn. It has the Sabian Symbol of “The human soul receptive to growth and understanding.“ This is an intriguing and powerful New Moon, and it comes along at an intriguing time, very nearly coincident with the Winter Solstice and bridging the turning of the seasons as we head into the storied year of 2012. Additionally, there are potent possibilities revealed in the configuration of outer planets as we move ahead into the final week of the old year. Jupiter in the first degree of Taurus is powerfully placed right now, being about to station the very next day, on the Christmas holiday as practiced by much of the Western world. Uranus, occupying the first degree of Aries, and therefore squared by the New Moon, is given a huge boost as well by this semi-sextile to a stationing Jupiter. And Chiron, the Wounded Healer, is also strongly engaged in these aspects, being sextile to both Jupiter and the New Moon. This last factor suggests that a certain amount of painful necessity will be felt even as we revel in the unexpected spiritual epiphanies represented by Uranus in combination with positively inspired Jupiter.
Pluto – as always in these recent and fairly stressful times – hovers in the wings, with his square to Uranus now forming, since Uranus changed to direct motion two weeks ago. Their waxing square, the first strong connection between them since the revolutionary decade of the sixties, perfects six months from now, on June 24, 2012, the first of seven exact hits that will take us to nearly the end of this pivotal decade that is shaping up.
And what a decade it has been, even thus far. There has been economic collapse plus environmental destruction and dereliction on the part of the nation’s leaders in the face of it, while the protest movement from an outraged citizenry seems to be just getting underway. It is one of the great benefits of Astrology that we can tell not only that these radical changes were coming, but also that they still have even farther to go, so that we might be prepared, at least somewhat, for the events of the next few months and even years. Pluto is like that; and in combination with Uranus sows the seeds for revolution, a necessary changing of the guard, a summation that currently moves each one of us individually as much as it does the society around us. We must transform in our individual lives before we run out of chances.
And we can also say, along with Ben Franklin at the time of Uranus’ discovery and in the early days of the initially revolutionary social setting called the United States of America, that “we must all hang together now or we shall most certainly all hang separately.“ It is indeed the dawning of the Age of Aquarius, when humankind must hang together to aspire to a new evolutionary level or else go under. And this notion becomes a source of inspiration as we recognize that in our individual contributions we can clearly see the wave of history unfolding and attempt to ride it to a farther shore. Difficult as it is, and painful as it must be to leave behind much of what we had previously assumed and found comfortable, we win when we consider that anything that we do must be done with a whole heart, and in alignment with our most deeply held spiritual principles, and therefore must advance the cause of evolution which the direness of our collective situation compels. These are the thoughts that will sustain us now, as we enter into this New Year and continue our course through this turbulent decade. We must act now for the highest or become confused bystanders to the historical mandate of our moment in time.
Winter Solstice on Dec 21, 2011
Seeds are lying dormant at the Capricorn Ingress, which falls this year at about 9:30 PM on Dec. 21st.
The Sun is conjunct Pluto, trine Jupiter, square Uranus and sextile both Saturn and Neptune, thereby making a major aspect to every inter- and trans-personal planet. Missing are any “classical” aspects to the personal planets (Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars). Yet the bucket pattern has Mars as the handle, so your passions will pull you in all directions.
Fitting, too, to the theme of developing seeds is that, for the West Coast, nearly all the bodies are below the horizon, with only Uranus and Jupiter still in plain sight. The question, as always for a Capricorn Ingress chart, is what is the theme of the seeds themselves?
Sun conjunct Pluto suggests some significant transformation is necessary. Pluto always asks (some might say compels?) us to let go of something that we thought was important. Indeed, at one time it may have been. But Pluto declares its usefulness is over, that it’s time to release the old to make room for something new. A good and necessary process and often not an easy one. In completing this roughly annual cycle of aspects from the Sun to Pluto (conjunction, square, opposition, square and back to conjunction), we need to look at the set of aspects for clues.
The continuing square of the Sun to Uranus reinforces the energy to jettison what’s old and established, although Uranus often doesn’t care whether it’s still useful or not, so caution is advised! And, since the Sun is making an easy trine to Jupiter we’ll have a tendency to go overboard, no matter what. While it will take some thoughtful energy, the Sun’s sextile to Saturn can help to slow down the urge to metaphorically (or metaphysically?) clean house. In fact, the Jupiter Saturn opposition, while a bit wide and out of sign, sets up in this chart an inherent push-pull energy, further slowing down the possibly wild expansion.
Adding to the mix is Neptune, which sits sextile both the Sun and Jupiter and is opposite Saturn. Neptune brings along our highest hopes and dreams, and our easiest self-deceptions, so we need to be alert to which is which, and go with the dreams that are attainable. The contact with Saturn can help there, as the old School Master will be sure to cause us to do our homework! Just try to do that before giving free rein to Jupiter’s push to push us down the road, regardless of which road or where it goes. Saturn, still in Libra, still wants us to consider our options, to weigh them in the scales. Here, too, is a suggestion that we don”t consider just the potential results to ourselves, but also examine how our decisions may impact our partners, on whatever level may be appropriate. Sometimes our dreams are just passing fancies, and by evaluating their potential impact we can sometimes realize that, and let them go.
These connections between the Sun and all of the planets from Jupiter out also suggest that some of this Ingress’ seeds deal more with social issues and less with personal ones. Jupiter and Saturn are sometimes called “inter-personal” planets, and can illustrate how we deal with people around us. The “trans-personal” planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, when not connected closely to the personal planets, will have something to say about how we relate to the so-called “generational” themes. So looking at the Ingress as a personal transit asks us to examine our attitudes toward broader issues, and contemplate how such attitudes might play a part – enabling or disabling – in how we interact in a social context. Spend some time thinking about how your prejudices, biases and cultural mindset might hamper or enhance how you “get along” in the world. Do you “go along to get along”, or do you become active in communicating our values? Do you stand up for your convictions, or just “let it go” when you see something you think is unjust? We all have our blind spots, pre-conceived notions about how things are or should be. But do those attitudes still hold water? Or do they merely hold us back? Neptune’s dreams, the Uranian urge to do the unexpected, Jupiter’s desire to expand and Saturn’s drive for self-control and personal responsibility all connect to the Sun, here representing our consciousness, so we have lots of energy to use on this. By bringing these issues into our conscious awareness we can become empowered to have a positive influence on these areas.
While the personal planets don’t make major aspects to the Sun, they don’t make them to each other, either. Mercury and Mars, in fact, make no major aspects at all, while the Moon only aspects Uranus and Neptune. Unaspected planets often seem to lack the moderating influences that contact with other planets can provide, and can sometimes seem to run amok, operating, as it were, in an out of control mode. So be especially careful in how you communicate and in how you take action. The communication issues could go astray in either direction – in how you talk to others and in how you (mis)understand what you hear, see, or read. Mars unaspected will have a tendency to take action without due regard for potential consequences. Nothing like flooring the gas pedal without knowing which way the wheels are turned to ruin a trip to Grandma’s for the holidays! Yet even though Mars is the handle swinging this bucket of energy around, he is in Virgo, which somewhat tempers his normal rash behavior. Precise – or perhaps precisely focused – action is favored.
As the energies of this Solstice chart start to manifest, keep in mind the aphorism “Think globally, act locally.”
December 17th Full Moon & New Year’s Eve
By Henry Seltzer, AstroGraph Software
Saturday’s Last Quarter Moon brings to a near close the tumultuous lunation cycle that was initiated on Thanksgiving Day with a Solar Eclipse in early Sagittarius. This cycle also included the recent and also quite potent Lunar Eclipse from a week ago. Now the Sun and Moon in their waning square bring a moment of tension to a process that is winding down, and emphasize the contemplative nature of this monthly period. Even though Mercury is now in direct motion – finally – it is still to escape from its retrograde shadow, coinciding with the end of the month. The configuration of this Last Quarter Moon includes Uranus, now in forward motion and aspected by the Moon, and as well Jupiter, stationing direct on Christmas Day, which remains in close aspect and therefore strongly emphasizes the startling enlightenment provided by Uranus, still right at the Aries point. The Moon and Mercury also complete a bi-quintile yod to Jupiter, bringing a streak of optimism into the picture even in the face of somewhat difficult times.
The chart for New Year’s Day itself is quite interesting, being the prognosticator for the year to come, the much–storied and magically invoked year of 2012, the end of the Mayan calendar and the beginning of a new phase in the affairs of planet earth, at least by some accounts. Indeed this is a potent year that is a–dawning, as we can judge also by the culmination of the Uranus–Pluto square that would represent the quarter phase of that planetary relationship – birthed in the sixties and with many past revolutionary cycles to the list of its historical appearances, including the time of the French Revolution, when these planets were opposed. And indeed a new revolution for our times has been brewing lately, one that has been getting more and more intense as the years leading up to 2012 have rolled by. In the New Year’s Eve chart there is another square alignment between Sun and Moon. In other words, January 1st will be a Quarter Moon as well, the First Quarter Moon of the new lunation cycle that is beginning on December 24th, Christmas Eve. It is significant that as theSun and Moon move into square alignment on that day they aspect both Uranus and Pluto, being also in their same respective signs of Capricorn and Aries, while Venus, Jupiter and Chiron also aspect Uranus. Taking this chart as a harbinger for the coming year, it seems that there will be surprising developments and no let up in the intensity of radical changes coming down.
This all provides much food for thought in these last two weeks of the dying year, as we mull over recent events and attempt to see where we are headed both individually and collectively. We might reflect on the places in our personal lives that could use a New Years Day clean–up, bringing us a little bit closer to where at the deepest intuitional level we feel that we really could be. It’s a lot to ask of ourselves, but in another way, what else can we do but move forward, in spite of inherent difficulties, in spite of everything.
There’s No Excuse for Missing Tomorrow’s Total Lunar Eclipse
There’s No Excuse for Missing Tomorrow’s Total Lunar Eclipse – Technology – The Atlantic Wire.
…except that you’re reading this after it happened.
6:05 am PST, 9:05 am EST on Dec 10, 2010. The moon will turn orange or red, and it’s the last FULL lunar eclipse until 2014.
Dec 10 Lunar Eclipse
The Lunar Eclipse on Sat. Dec. 10 presents a bit of a conflict. Lunar eclipses, by nature, tend to bring up deep emotions. At the same time, a chart cast for the eclipse shows a complete lack of water element signs, and water represents emotions. It may simply be that there is a conflict between your head and heart that needs to be resolved.
So, pay extra attention to your emotional needs and those life events that kick off your emotions. With the moon in mental Gemini, it would not be a surprise to think about your emotions rather than stopping the busyness to feel them. At the same time, revolutionary Uranus ends its retrograde cycle (since early July). This will help you bring innovative ideas into your world in the coming weeks-or maybe, just through a revolution! Perhaps the Oppose Wall Street people will reflect this energy.
Finally, Mercury ends its retrograde period in time for Pacific Coast rush hour traffic on the 13th. Allow extra time and practice flexibility.
November 24th New Moon
by Henry Seltzer ![]()
The Sagittarius New Moon of Thursday evening, November 24th is in addition a partial Solar Eclipse, although one that will not be seen anywhere in the northern hemisphere. Taking place in the third degree of Sagittarius, it strongly aspects Jupiter, Uranus and Chiron. This is an important New Moon, and it comes at an important time, emphasizing the Uranus – Pluto square that is the exciting and yet scary harbinger of even more difficult times ahead than we have already seen. Mercury is just now turned retrograde, also in Sagittarius, and we are in a thoughtful and reflective period when we might make the attempt to think our way through the difficulties and try to understand in a deeper way the state of grace that, when we can turn our eyes inward, we can see that we equally partake of.
Therefore although Uranus and Pluto are in dynamic alignment and things are rapidly changing, there is also the possibility of relaxation and even enjoyment of the roller coaster ride, especially if we can maintain a somewhat detached attitude and trust our angel guides and other numinous cosmic presences to guide us through. The New Moon and eclipse does highlight the strong square between these heavies, so there will be a lot to manage as we head into the end of a powerfully transformative year that is the but the prelude to another. The strength of this aspect is currently fading slightly but it will return with a rush in the springtime, coming to its first moment of exact alignment in June of 2012.
In addition to the thoughtful and reflective time of the Mercury Retrograde, when we do well to simply acknowledge the situation and refuse to push the river, choosing instead contemplation over frantic activity, this New Moon brings us further riches in the form of outer planet energies. We have the graceful presence of positive and peaceful Jupiter, stationing next month in early Taurus, together with the unexpected enlightenment represented by Uranus, also aspected by this New Moon, and finally the energy of Chiron, the Wounded Healer, occupying the first degree of inner–oriented Pisces and square to the New Moon. This is an unusually spiritual combination, emphasizing the deeper meaning of the events of our lives. We win when we find the positive inner vision to open to these energies, which of course actually reside inside us rather than somewhere ”out there.” Then we might be able to see in our troubles, rather than a deficit, an opportunity. Then we might be able to see in our essentially wounded nature, rather than our personal shortcoming, a fundamental part of the human condition, although of course it is both. Then we might be able to see in our radical transformation, rather than the crunched–up caterpillar, the emerging butterfly of our unique spiritual evolution.
Predestined?
“I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” – Stephen Hawking
Nov. 24/25 Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius
We are now moving into the intensity of eclipse season. It begins with communications planet Mercury moving into its retrograde cycle Nov. 23-Dec. 13. Give yourself extra time when traveling and practice good communications skills for the next several weeks.
The Solar Eclipse is on Nov. 24 at 10:10 PM PST at 3 degrees Sagittarius. A solar eclipse asks you to put aside the busyness of life and refocus your priorities based upon a core, spiritual level. It brings aspects up from the bottom for you to look at. Think of Penn State and Joe Paterno with the uncovering of a child abuse scandal. Sagittarius rules religion and is a fire element sign. Think of the Tibetan monks who have been setting themselves on fire to call attention to the abuse they are receiving from China.
On a personal level, invest some time in your higher aspirations. It is too easy to get caught up in all the things you need to do at this time of year, not to mention the added financial burden that comes during the holidays.
Sagittarius calls you to a higher philosophy, to live in a higher integrity. It is the sign that urges you to take a risk on yourself. Explore something new, or allow some underused part of your soul-personality to find expression. Be willing to take a risk on yourself and step out of your comfort zone.
There will also be a lunar eclipse on December 10th, so emotions are up for the next few weeks. Find time to pull away from your world to remember what is really important. Take your journal and jot down some big ideas. You are not limited and it is an abundant universe, just waiting for you to call your good to you.

An Overnight Success After 15 Years: Wandering Star Jewelry
by Gil Zeimer
Astrologer Alicia C. Katz is the artist and visionary behind Wandering Star Astrology Chart Jewelry. For 15 years, the entrepreneurial Cancer (with a Libra moon and ascendant) has offered ways to “wear your universe” by creating charts and readings, custom jewelry, zodiac gifts, books, software, and more, which she sells online.
She got her big break in Hollywood, the day before the Oscars in February 2011.
We recently chatted with Katz about her Academy Awards experience, the origins of Wandering Star, and promoting her small business.
GP: How did you take your “meaningful bling” to Hollywood?
Katz: The company that puts together the pre-Oscar gift bags found me online and invited me to Hollywood. I was excited to finally get some national exposure after 15 years of being in business. I met more than 50 TV and film celebrities and took each person’s date, time, and place of birth. I then created astronomical necklaces, about 25 of which were customized with both an astronomical sky map and an astrology chart.
Who did you meet there?
A few celebrities in particular asked me to help them select the perfect astrology jewelry, so I created custom pieces for C. Thomas Howell, who got a Sagittarius necklace; Tony Dovolani of Dancing With the Stars, who got a Cancer necklace; and Nadia Bjorlin from Days of Our Lives, who got a custom horoscope necklace.
What did this one event do for your business?
It gave my company great visibility, with celebrity endorsements (video and written testimonials) on my website and on YouTube. My business became an overnight success.
Since the Oscars, how has business been?
To be honest, we didn’t get a lasting boost in business, but we did get a great opportunity to talk to celebrities and show them what we can do. We will follow up with many of them soon for holiday gift orders.
How did you get started making astrology jewelry?
While studying astronomy in Santa Fe, N.M., in 1995, I wanted to make jewelry that was not only pretty, but also practical and powerful. I discovered that I could balance the science of astronomy with the art of astrology. The first pieces were made as Christmas presents, then friends started asking for them and a business was born. Wandering Star grew from a tackle box at my kitchen table to a community-based business that now has stores and customers all over the world.
How do you promote your business?
We run print ads in Us Weekly and Men’s Journal and online, but the bulk of our marketing focuses on our website. The majority of our sales occur through Google searches and someone just buying a gift item through our online store. It’s very satisfying to see them come in throughout the day.
How far do you travel to display at trade shows?
I go to holistic expos on the West Coast and occasional large conferences in other cities, as well as astrology conferences like the New Orleans one, slated for 2012.
What’s your biggest challenge?
Educating people about what my products can actually do for them as a power tool or power talisman. In stores, my customized astrology necklace looks like any other necklace, but when I’m able to talk to someone face-to-face at a trade show or via phone after they see my website, I’m able to explain how each bead affects their personality, so they can use it as a tool to break a bad habit or to call on their strengths.
What do you like most about GoPayment?
For trade shows, I’ve loaded all of the options for my gift items into the GoPayment system, so I can actually build a specific product from myriad choices to fulfill each customer’s particular wish list.

Fall Equinox 2011 by David Ockrassa
The Libra Ingress is on Friday, Sept. 23, at 5:04 AM EST, 3:04 AM on the west coast. The wide Grand Cross of the Cancer Ingress has broken up, as Saturn has moved a ways out of reach to the opposition to Uranus and speedy Mercury has moved from his position then to a conjunction with the now Libra Sun, although still out of sign. But while the Grand Cross is absent this chart, there is still a T-Square pattern for us to ponder and cope with. While generally not as challenging as the Cross, which pulls us in four directions at once, this pattern still presents us with tugs in three.
The Libra Ingress is always, at least on some level, about relationships and / or communications, so those become underlying potentials for us this time of year. It suggests an opportune time to put some greater than normal energy and thought into how we relate to others in a one-to-one manner, and to how we communicate with those people in our lives. While we should, of course, always be aware of these issues, not everyone has Libra strong in their natal chart. The cosmos seems to send an annual message when it’s time for a tune-up.
The Sun, having moved 90 degrees around the Zodiac, is now opposite Uranus and square Pluto, instead of being square Uranus and opposite Pluto, as it was at the Cancer Ingress. Instead of being face to face with the transformational influence of Pluto, that energy now feels like it’s coming from somewhere off to the side, and is perhaps a bit less conscious. At the same time, the eccentric energy of Uranus, now opposite the Sun, becomes a bit clearer in our perception. We can more easily see where the impetus to make changes is coming from than we could three months ago. Keep in mind that both of these outer planets are harbingers of change, Uranus in its drive to try something new, and Pluto in its steady pressure to dispense with the old and no longer useful things, attitudes and emotions that are no longer productive to our aims.
Uranus, in Aries, can be said to be more impatient than usual to break the mold of past habit patterns. Aries adds the dynamic energy to “just do it” to Uranus urge to replace the old way of doing things with something – anything – different. The opposition to the Sun can often seem like this drive is coming from outside ourselves, and is often projected onto someone around us. But this push is really an internal energy. We are perhaps only vaguely aware of what we need to change within ourselves to improve the way we related and communicate with others. Take this time to honestly consider your style of relating, evaluate what still works and what you’re doing just out of habit. Old habits, no matter how outgrown they may be, are still hard to change. Uranus can provide the spark to start.
And Pluto, as the fulcrum of that T-square, can certainly increase the pressure to make some changes. His placement in Capricorn, the sign of the established order, signals that this order contains elements that need to go, no matter how dear we might think those things are to us. Pluto’s drive is to eliminate what is no longer worthwhile, and in this chart it reinforces the message of Uranus. Since the square often feels like it’s an energy coming from our blind side, be alert to unexpected events or situations that may seem confrontational, but are really asking us to consider what we are doing, and whether or not that still is really helping us achieve our goals in relationships, or is just an old strategy that, really, no longer works. Be willing to release those behavior patterns if they are no longer helpful.
Both the Moon and Mars are in the early degrees of Leo in this chart, making easy aspects (sextile and trine, respectively) to the Sun and to Uranus, and an awkward inconjunct to Pluto. They add a dash of ego awareness to the mix, helping us to hold on to our basic identity and emotional center while dealing with the stress of the needed changes. But beware a tendency to heated or rash emotional reactions to the pressures that will surely unfold over the next three months, as Mars can sometimes be a bit hard to handle, especially when linked this closely to the emotional and protective Moon. There may be an unconscious tendency to lash out at the perceived source of our tension when we forget that the push to change is really coming from within, as we start to process our habit patterns in the field of relationships and communication.
Mercury, in late Virgo, reminds us to seek precision in our communications and can help us to articulate clearly to our partners what the stresses we’re going to be going through are bringing up, and emphasizes the communication issues that are, actually, part of the stresses. If we can’t talk clearly about the pressure for internal changes we may precipitate the volatile emotional reactions that the Moon / Mars conjunction warns against.
Venus is now also in Libra, and suggests that what we really want is to improve our relationships, so by becoming more aware of what works well in that area of our life… and of what no longer does! We’re on the right path. Being willing to let go of the counter-productive behaviors, once identified, is the hard part. Saturn, still in Libra, can be the needed self-discipline to do so, if we take personal responsibility for our actions. On the other hand, if we don’t take that responsibility on ourselves, Saturn will still be an energy of discipline, except that it will be felt as coming from outside, and will likely reduce our options. Taking ownership of the energies of the chart and making proactive choices, rather than seemingly being boxed in and limited, is the best way to use astrology.

Summer Solstice 2011 by David Ockrassa
The Cancer Ingress this year falls on June 21st at 1:16 PM EDT, and provides us with a strong but tense chart urging us to come to terms with a lot of interacting energy.
The chart has a (slightly wide) “grand cross”, four planets all making squares and oppositions to each other. Mercury in Cancer completes the T-square of Saturn in Libra square Pluto in Capricorn, which is square Uranus in Aries, which is, in turn, opposite Saturn and (widely) square Mercury, which is also opposite Pluto.
Head spinning yet?
The Grand Cross pattern is always one that asks us to integrate and adjust the planetary energies involved, and we can get discouraged in trying to do so as they all seem to be pushing us in, well, directions that are either opposite the ones we think we need to go in, or are pulling us off on a tangent from those directions. It’s often rather glibly suggested that we should “integrate” these energies, but there is seldom an easy or simple way to do that. More often, we feel like we’re being pulled apart like the Medieval torture of being drawn and quartered. But there are ways to pull these energies back together, first by understanding them individually, and then evaluating them in their aspects to each other. And the rest of the chart will also provide additional resources to balance these energies.
Since Mercury is the fastest of these, filling in the “empty” leg of a slower moving T-Square, we’ll consider him last.
Saturn opposite Uranus continues the struggle between order and chaos. Saturn is often considered to be the “old” order, and Uranus the drive to make sudden (and sometimes not well thought out) change. So there is pressure here to make changes – sometimes just for the sake of change! – versus a desire to remain with the tried and true old ways of doing things. It seems that change is needed, in whatever house Uranus sits at this time, but opposing that is a desire to stay in our comfort zone. Listen for what change is needed, but don’t rush into it. Conversely, be willing to move a bit out of that comfort zone, stretch your wings, and remain open to the idea of change.
Both of these planets are square Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto is even more about change than Uranus, and harder to ignore. That he sits in the sign ruled by Saturn definitely speaks about a need for change in the established order, in the usual way we do things. We’re being compelled to consider changes in routines and habits that we think are vital, and such changes are never easy or comfortable. Pluto doesn’t work that way. In what house does Pluto fall? That area of your life is where you’re being forced to let go of something, something that’s seemingly been an important part of your life for a long time. Pluto is saying that it’s been there too long, and no longer serves the purpose it once did. Time to let go of it, and open up some room in your life for something new, something more productive for your life.
Mercury zips through the empty leg for the Solstice chart, and brings along the energy to communicate the anxiety this T-square produces. Mercury’s energy can help us to identify and share the turmoil we’re in, and provides one way to deal with the tension. Whether we talk to a trusted confidante or to ourselves, verbalizing the options is one way to identify them so we can then evaluate them. There are always options even though we may not see them quickly or clearly. Since Mercury is in Cancer, his mental energy will be expressed in a way that is nurturing, caring, and protective, bringing our emotions into the mix along with our intellect. Indeed, even if Mercury was not causing the T-square to turn into a grand cross, one of the best ways to deal with the T-square is to look to the “empty leg” as an outlet for the energies, so Cancer would still be important. That Mercury is there provides us the energy to gather and process information. Try to do that before taking any of the actions the T-square pushes you towards.
Mars, the planet of dynamic energy, has just entered Gemini at the time of this solstice, and makes a tight square to Neptune, which is slowly backing out of Pisces before turning direct in November and making his solid entry into that Sign next April. Another challenging aspect here, and one between two energies that are also at odds, or, at least, not always a productive combination. Mars, of course, wants to do it now, no matter what it is. Neptune wants us to spend our time in dreams, dreams of an ideal that may or may not be attainable, but one that certainly is out of reach without some support to make it happen. While Mars can provide the energy to pressure those dreams, Mars doesn’t spend any time considering whether they are reachable or not, and doesn’t really care. Without some planning one could easily find one’s self going off on a tangent (it is a square!) instead of focusing one’s energy to reach Neptune’s goals. Neptune is trine the Sun and sextile Jupiter, offering us a way out. The area of your chart that contains 00 Cancer is being lit up by the Solstice Sun, and this area of life is where you need to be considering putting some extra effort into reaching your goals. Jupiter is at 03 Taurus, and where that falls in your natal chart (and aspects it might make to other natal planets) is highlighted as an arena that is ready to grow toward those dreams. Since Taurus is a Fixed Sign, not tremendously interested in change, you can use the dynamism of the grand cross to kick it loose to make some positive changes in your life at this time.
